We’ve all been there at some point – you stand in your closet, which is seemingly full of clothes, yet somehow you have absolutely nothing to wear. You hate everything staring back at you. Or you try on outfit after outfit to no avail.
Don’t worry. We understand that the struggle is real.
Often, we look in the mirror and say, “I don’t have anything that matches!”
It seems as though you have a few great pieces, but no great outfits.
So, how do you fix this problem?
Is there a solution to this frustration?
Start with spring cleaning
Yes, having a lot in your closet is a great feeling, but sometimes it can actually be hurting you. You have several items in there you don’t like, several items you don’t wear, and great pieces you forget about that are hiding behind the two groups mentioned above.
Spring cleaning is basically closet shopping. You are rediscovering what you have to work with, and might even come up with new ways to style things that you already knew existed.
So, while you’re spring cleaning your closet, you can rebuild your wardrobe and redesign a style that matches and is you!
But, of course, when you are spring cleaning, some things just have to go.
What do I keep?
You will always have those staple items in your closet – and it might just be that pair of killer boots from the 90s.
But let’s be real for a second – not every item can withstand the test of time.
So, as you are trying to eliminate this “nothing matches” problem, consider:
- Do you really like the garment?
You might think you do, but if you haven’t worn it in 6+ months, is it really worth keeping?
- Does the garment fit your current lifestyle?
This is different from trying to decipher if something is “in style.” But for example, if you are a businesswoman most of the time, do you really need a closet full of crop tops? Probably not.
- Would you miss it if you gave it away?
This goes back to the first question, “do you really like the garment?” If you wouldn’t notice if it were gone, then you probably don’t like it as much as you thought.
Loving your wardrobe is all about constantly updating it. Not necessarily for the trends, but for your personal style and your personal lifestyle. So no, this is not a one and done task, but this is a solution to solve the “my clothes don’t match” problem we all face, all too often.
